As a hair and make-up artist I am often asked why brides-to-be need my services. The most obvious answer is because we make you look and feel fabulous. But there’s more to it than that. I say look at it like this, a make-up artist is like a personal consultant - someone skilled in the ability to judge exactly what is needed to enhance and bring out the best in your natural features and of course to put the finishing touches to your overall look. Remember, your make-up needs to last, and needs to hold up day and night and for the all important photographs. A make-up artist is skilled in applying make-up that will do just this, and look seamless under the flash of a camera. Make-up, when applied properly, need never look obvious or heavy - that is the skill of your make-up artist, to make you look beautiful, with as little or as much make-up as you feel comfortable with.

I’d like to point out some of the most common reasons for not employing a make-up artist firstly, people think, because they don’t usually wear make-up, they don’t need it on their wedding day or at least don’t feel confident enough to wear it on their day. Reasons being that they will look made-up or just feel uncomfortable. In fact, it is for these people that a make-up artist is so important. People that don’t wear make-up are generally unsure of what it takes to apply make-up that will last and look good in pictures, but at the same time keeping it as natural as possible. They can be unsure of what colours suit them, and tend to overdo it. This is where we come in, a good make-up artist will take into consideration each individuals needs and comfort zone and from that create a look that feels
comfortable and makes you look great.

There are some that think a make-up artists job is to apply as much make-up as possible creating an obvious and in your face look. In fact it is the opposite, a good make-up artist will make you look as natural as you want to look. Some people say, well if it’s so natural and they use so little make-up, I might as well do it myself. This is wrong, what a make-up artist does, is use colours that are very close to your natural skin tone, and products that will enhance your natural features, they use creams that mask and hide blemishes, lips glosses that might simply add a red tone to your lips or a gentle colour shimmer above the eye, so when it the light catches, you radiate a healthy glow. Therefore various products and make-up are used to ensure, that perhaps the ‘unexpected’ pimple does not show, the eyes don’t look tired and any dark circles disappear. The goal of the make-up artist is to make your skin appear flawless with as little or as much added colours on eyes, cheeks and lips as the bride desires.

Its the little details and tricks we have up our sleeve that will transform you not traumatise you!

Your wedding day is a day you will never forget. Picture this, you have your wonderful dress, your veil, perhaps tiara, it’s not your usual attire, so how do you plan too put it all together, and how can you be
