Getting the Kids Ready
I am due to get married in a double wedding (my partners sister is the other bride to be), and so far the planning has been straightforward. However, she has daughters who are to be bridesmaids, and I have sons who are to be my pageboys. What is the tradition for getting the children ready on the morning of the wedding? She wants the boys to stay with her dad as she thinks that this is the tradition. My parents have passed away, therefore we will both be getting ready from my mother in laws house, but she insists that the pageboys should be with the groom. At the end of the day it should be what I am happy with, but I dont want to cause any conflict. I thought that the children would get ready with the bride and travel with them. Please could you let me know you views on the tradition for the moring of a wedding.

Traditionally, it is true that the ushers and page boys should get ready with the groom. It is however your wedding day and therefore you should be able to have your children near you if this is what you want. If you explain to your partners sister how important it is for you to have your children around you as you get ready then Im sure she will understand. Hope this helps.

It is correct that, traditionally, any page boys would get ready for the wedding with the mens' party. However, in the case of young children, this is often overlooked as brides with young children often prefer to have them close by. You shouldn't feel worried about saying that you would feel happier if your boys stay with you. It is your day too and you also have the right to decide what goes -for you. Maybe you could lighten the topic by saying you would be worried they may turn up with jackets inside out, chocolate ice-cream faces and slippers instead of shoes if left in the hands of high-spirited ushers and grooms! Very best of luck. Siobhan
