Agony Aunts > Bridesmaids & Best Man

Mothers and Step mothers
My fiancee's parents are divorced and the father has remarried. We are inviting him and his wife, plus fiancee's mother and my parents to the wedding. We plan to present the mothers with flowers during the speeches, but would like to include the step mother and present her with a bouquet also. (Fiancee's mother is fine with this.) As none of them have had anything to do with the wedding preparations or finance (deliberately), we were looking for a pretext on which to make the presentations, and particularly to the step mother. Any suggestions?

It is lovely that you wish to present the parents with flowers. Obviously they have been a large part of your life even though they have not been included with the wedding preperations, so you could always thank them for the love and support they have offered you over the years. Sometimes we take for granted that our parents are always there for us even as we become adults, and I am sure if you have a good relationship with them that there is a lot of love and care in the family. Just thank them for being them and helping you to grow and develop into adults, as if it wasn't for them you wouldn't be here to share your special day with them. I hope this helps and good luck for the future. Dawn

It is quite common for the Bride and Groom to present some of the wedding party with small gifts during the speeches. You might want to say that the gifts are for some special people that have played important roles within your life and wedding day.....a generalised introduction that does not specify who did what! Most couples usually acknowledge the support their parents have given them throughout life and leading up to their wedding day, again another opportunity at which you could present the flowers and say Thank you! I am sure that regardless of how you present the flowers, they will be greatly appreciated. Best wishes for your wedding day, Simone.
