Small bride dilemmas
I'm struggling to find a bridal dress that I love and am feeling guilty that I'm not enjoying the shopping experience at all. I'm only 5 foot and a size 8 with quite a straight figure (in fact, a little 'top heavy') & none of the off the peg dresses seem in proportion for me. I've found someone who can make a design I like, out of thai silk for £900 - but have no idea if it's good value? Also, although I originally loved the idea of a floaty or fishtail, antique lace style, all my friends say that an A-line silk dress with sweetheart bodice suits me much better. Do you have any advice on where to buy a petite style, or if made-to-measure is the best option? And should I go for a style that my friends say looks fantastic over my preferred style? I think the silk dresses look and feel good, but am not sure it fits with my 'country wedding', & both myself and my fiance have always preferred the look of slimer wedding dresses.

Dear Helen It sounds as if you have an amazing figure that would look good in any style of dress! As you have a larger bust than an average size 8, it may be best to have a dress made and £900 is a reasonable price for a designed and made to measure dress. I think that as it is your wedding, and as the dress is really important to a bride, you should choose what you really want and not necessarily what your friends prefer. It seems that you have an enviable figure that would look great in most styles and if both yourself and your fiance prefer a more fitted/straight style of dress then I would recommend you consider this option. Most bridal shops offer dresses ranging from size 6/8 and almost all offer an alteration service so should be able to alter a dress to suit your figure. Good luck with your search! Suzie

have you thought of a two piece? boddice or bustier and tapered or a-line skirt. If you are 'top heavy' this can bring in your top half and the skirth can even the figure out. as it is a two piece this can be fitted at a lot less cost. If you do decide to go with the made to measure then £900 is fairly reasonable but ensure to have this done way in advance if you do not know the person so that you have time for mistakes alterations. i hope this helps.
