Agony Aunts > Bridesmaids & Best Man

No bridesmaids!
Hello. My fiance has decided not to have bridesmaids at our wedding and she has asked her goddaughter to be a flowergirl. Normally the groom's speech ends with a toast to the bridesmaids but in my case I won't be able to do this and I'm not sure that I should propose a toast to the flowergirl! I could end my speech by simply introducing the best man. What do you suggest? Mark

Hi Mark Why not end the speech with a small toast to the flower girl followed by one for all the ladies in the room? Or how about the ladies in your new family? Bernadette

Hi Mark Don't worry, acknowleging the flower girl at the end of your speech is fine and only right. She's going to be the baby belle of the ball and deserves her limelight! It doesn't need to be as formal as proposing a toast, but I'm sure she'd love it if you did, maybe just saying how pretty she looks and asking everyone to agree she has done a great job. Then you could present her with her gift of your choice. Have a wonderful day Siobhan

Hi Mark I think it would be lovely to do a toast to your flower girl as long as you think she will be OK with this. You could thank her and then give her a small gift before then introducing your best man.Have a wonderful day. Suzie

The flower girl will feel like a little princess that day - whay not comment on how pretty she looked and thank her for being such a good girl. Let the guests applaud her - she will love that - then you can introduce the next speaker. Good Luck MRS S
