involing both stepdads
we are due toget married next year and would like to involve both of our stepdads. i the bride am very close with my dad so would not like the spotlight taken off him, but my partner has not seen his dad for years. i was thinking about asking them to be ushers as it is an important job for the day, but my pertner thinks that it is not a job for the stepdads and thinks we should just hire suits for them. what would you sugest?

I think that it is lovely that you are so close to both your Dad and step Dad and that you want both to be involved. It is however, entirely up to the groom who he chooses to be his ushers, so I feel you must respect his decision on this one. I think it would be a good idea to hire suits for the step Dads and why don't you allocate different roles for them to keep them feeling involved? Some ideas would be to put them in charge of checking seating plans and place cards at the venue, helping organise family groups for the photographer, or taking care of any grandparents or elderly guests.

I think it is lovely you wish to involve your Step Fathers particularly if you are close to them. Normally the Ushers are close relatives and friends, but times are changing so you can choose whoever you wish to be more involved with the wedding day. I personally feel having the Step Fathers as Ushers is lovely, it is involving them without taking the spotlight of your Fathers. If your Fiancee is unhappy why not ask them to ask them to make a short speech each? What ever decision you make have a wonderful wedding. Bernadette Dream Occasions & UKAWP
